August Curriculum

August 15/16 and 17/18: We will discuss what makes us individuals. For art we will make life size posters of each student and talk about the things that we like and what is unique about us. For science we will discuss the unique characteristics of finger prints. For music we will sing songs that introduce ourselves. We will start the process of recognizing each student’s name. We will also review counting to ten and recognizing each written number. Show and tell is on Wednesday/Thursday, please have your child bring something to share that represents him/her (or something that they like).

August 22/23 and 24/25: This week is all about friends, how to be a friend and how to make a friend. For art we will make an art piece representing the friends we have here at school. For music we will learn a song about friendship and the craft will reflect this new song.For Mathematics we will discuss adding, one friend plus another friend makes two friends. We will work on our number recognition with a fun dice game. For science we will discuss magnets and the law of attraction . Show and tell is on Wednesday/Thursday, please have your child bring something that they received from a friend (or something that they like).

August 29/30 and 31/1st: We will start a letter focus this week. The letter will be Aa, the number will be 3, and the shape will be a triangle. The first day of preschool we will focus on the long "A" with the focus being on acorns. We will discuss the life cycle of a seed for science. Our craft will involve the hand eye coordination of working with scissors which will highlight acorns. We will read about a little girl with big character, “Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon” by Patty Lovell. We will work on number recognition with a leave game. The second day of preschool will discuss the short "a' with alligators being our key topic. We will learn a new alligator song, and read the book “Deep in the Swamp” by Donna Bateman. We will continue to work on our writing our names and will practice our shape recognition.
